I'm totally into how certain things tie into each other. Especially when they are obscure and spread out over time.. It's almost like being part of an inside joke that not everyone gets. Sort of a geeky cerebral thing..

There's the Scrubs/Lazlo Bane/Colin Hay (Men at Work) tie in..

It started with Men at work releasing Overkill in 1983:

<lj-embed id="72" />

which was also covered by Lazlo Bane in 1997:

<lj-embed id="73" />

Lazlo Bane does the theme song for Scrubs (apparently Zach Braff is friends with the band and directed the video), Superman:

<lj-embed id="74" />

and my favorite Scrubs episode is called "My Overkill", which guest stars...Colin Hay singing the song..

<lj-embed id="75" />

and the Shatner/Third Rock/Twilight Zone/Lithgow connection...

William Shatner did an episode of the original Twilight Zone called "Nightmare at 20,000 feet":

<lj-embed id="76" />

Which was remade as a part of the Twilight Zone movie in 1980, starring John Lithgow:

Part 1:

<lj-embed id="77" />

Part 2:

<lj-embed id="78" />

John Lithgow starred on Third Rock from the Sun, and William Shatner Guest Starred as "The Big Giant Head" in a few episodes.

I totally cracked up when I saw the first part of this..

<lj-embed id="79" />

I can't believe I actually have to do this. Again. This soon.

Quickly: Lizzie died about 2 1/2 hours ago. She wasn't in any pain that I am aware of, and it was quick which I am grateful for.

NOt-so-quickly:
We were just getting up and I was in the bathroom. I could see Fez waiting impatiently for me, but I heard a thud around the corner by the stairs, and was thinking "I hope she didn't just fall down the stairs." and as I went around the corner she was laying in the doorway to my bedroom which is adjacent to the stairs.

She was breathing and at first I couldn't figure out what was going on until I realized that she was probably having a seizure. It was nothing like Brody's seizures, she wasn't immediately drooling everywhere and it wasn't violent. She was laying on her left side breathing rapidly and her right front paw started twitching. Then she started to drool a bit and stopped breathing. I listened for a heartbeat but couldn't hear it. I tried to do CPR as best I could, and I was able to get some breaths in, but because of her extra long tongue, I couldn't get a good seal.

She lost bowel control and went into A-Fib. (Her heart started to flutter but was not pumping.)
I knew that there was no way I would be able to save her myself, knowing how Bonnie died (Her Mom, I posted about her a few weeks back when I found out that she had died.) I knew I had to let her go.

I always thought Fez would go first. He's 10 and has had his share of medical problems. She was only 5 and has never had any problems other than the eye injury. I knew I was going to lose Brody. This was just not in the plan. It feels empty around here without her, and I feel really bad for Fez because he's not been by himself since I got him. He's been by my side since we got home (I took him with me when I took her to the vets office) and has been very supportive.

There is so much to say but everything is all jumbled up and I can't put it together.

I loved coming home to her being so excited to see me. She would spin in circles and as soon as I got down to her level she would gewt up and give me a hug (put both paws on my shoulders) and kisses. She was my sleeping buddy. She would always be the one to get right next to me and want to sleep in the crook of my arm, if not right on my face. :)
She loved everyone she ever met, and they loved her back. There has never been a time when I ever had to worry about how she would react to people or other dogs (other than wanting to play.) so she was the one I would take with me to the park when I still had all 3. (When we moved here I took both with me so Fez wouldn't be by himself.) In fact, she liked to go to the park to see the people rather than see the other dogs.

I am grateful that I was with her from the moment she was born and at the moment that she went to the Bridge. She was only with me for 5 years, but I don't regret any moment of the five years I had with her.

I miss you, Lizzie.

Lizzie - 2/4/04-3/26/09

Quickie answer before this disapeared..

FOr several years, especially during the height of his popularity (and his arrest), I had longer hair and apparently people said I looked almost exactly like Hugh Grant. While I can see some of what they are talking about, there's a huge difference. He's much cooler than I am..

When I worked for Bjork's manager a few years later, and about the time I met kibblets, my boss (and apparently Kip) said I looked like Scott Wolf.

Whaddya think?

Me and my friend Carolynn

Here's Hugh:

And Scott:

I thought I was going to lose Fez. He hadn't eaten in 2 days and was not wanting to get out of his chair. He had been (I didn't know any better at this point) apparently misdiagnosed with kidney failure 3 years earlier, but was on a special diet and I was afraid that they had completely shut down and that this was the end. He had turned 9 a couple of months earlier. For a Boxer, that's about average, so I was kind of expected something, especially since the vets told me that this is what would happen.

Unfortunatley College Station shuts down when students aren't there, plus being a Sunday everything was closed except for the TAMU Small Animal/Emergency Clinic. I had no choice, but to rush him in and pay the extra fees associated with an ER. Initially there were some other indications, other than his kidneys, mostly that his bladder was full and he couldn't empty it on his own. His prostate was enlarged, so they thought that was the cause and that they would have to remove it and that it was going to be cancer.

As it turns out, he had, for probably at least three years, been producing and growing bladder stones, and one was stuck in his urethra.

They did emergency surgery to get them out, and Dr. Peycke (Who happened to be on the very first year of Animal Planet's Emergency Vets) said that it was one of the worst cases she had ever seen. His bladder wall was as thick as your little finger. 2 days later, they had to go back in because they were not able to get all of them. He was in the hospital for almost 8 full days. The bill in full, was almost $10,000. So much for my savings plan! (He is worth every penny, and I would do the same exact thing today if I had to.)

It was a rough recovery over the next 6-8 weeks. He had to wear a diaper for almost 2 months, and his bladder is still not as strong as it used to be. (being cut open twice will do that to ya..)

He was switched immediately from his kidney diet (His kidneys work 100% after all, even after all of this.) to a Struvite/Oxalate diet to prevent any more stone growth. It changes the PH of the urine and creates more urine output so that it flushes through (no pun intended) more frequently so that anything forming gets sent out quickly instead of hanging around growing.

There have been adjustments to our lifestyle.. Mostly I have to wash my bedding more frequently and the couch cushions weekly because of dribbles, but the vet today said that she thinks this is the best course if I am willing to do it, rather than put him on something to prevent leakage.

The amazing (and one of the things that makes me feel guilty) is that he took Xanax for over 3 years for anxiety. Mostly so that he would eat. I think it's possible now that HE KNEW that it was his food that was causing him the problems - that I was not even aware of yet. Once he was completely recovered and on the current food, he has not needed a single Xanax. 10 months without needing anything.. That's pretty awesome. Of course I feel bad remembering all the pills he took, the occasional blood spots on the bed (I checked all 3 dogs ears, feet, tongues, etc. and never found anything.. This is why!) and other small clues. He never indicated that he was in any pain or had any discomfort. It still amazes me how stoic dogs in general, but especially Boxers are.

Today we went to visit our new vet, him for the first time. He got a urinalisys and an X-Ray. We had been getting Ultrasounds at $500 a pop, but it has been long enough since his last one that if he had stones growing, they could see them on an X-ray. (I'm all about saving $350!)

As of today - No stones, Normal UA (no blood, no indication of anything odd). He will need to go back every 3 months for a UA ($40) which I can collect and drop off at the office. He just turned 10, and acts like he's 2 or 3.

It's a huge relief to know that both of my kids are 100% healthy!
