Say Goodbye To My Little Friend...
...well, one of 'em, at least.

Woke up this morning with that all-too familiar, deep pain in my lower back and a terrible stomach ache. Pretty much kept me on the couch the entire day, complete with a low-grade fever, chills and zero appetite...

Sure enough, I just woke from a long nap, went to take a whiz and - *whomp* - was nearly knocked to my knees by a passing kidney stone. Big fucker, too.

Shit really hurts.

So, how was your day? :/

variety pack

  • Today I went to the zoo with Ellen, Avi, and Avi’s husband Gordon. I took some pictures. My favorite is probably this one.

  • People have been emailing to ask where to find copies of Boneshaker here in Seattle. Apparently it’s been selling out around town (which is a good thing), and people can’t find it (which is a bad thing). Let it now be known: both the Barnes & Noble locations at Pacific Place and Northgate are well stocked with copies, all of which are signed; and likewise, the University Book Store in the U-district has a stash of signed copies (at the moment, as of this posting). Please, have at.

  • If you’d like something signed to you, personally (or to a loved one … hey, the holidays are just over the horizon there, aren’t they?), you can order such a book through the University Book Store.

  • If you are a local (or even local-ish) bookseller and you’d like to get your stock signed, drop me an email at cherie.priest@gmail.com - and I’ll be glad to talk about coming to your store. It might take me a day or two depending on my work load and your location, but I’m always happy to accommodate you if at all possible.

Hmmm... Looks like I'm going to have to make a trip to the library to use their printer. [info]popfiend posted this about the Vytorin/Zetia settlement, and I'm sure one of the ones they're pointing at. Hell, I'm sure I won't get much, but I was on Vytorin for most of their claim period. It sucks not having a printer with ink in the house. :-(

Funky Art / Staring at Goats

So I was *supposed* to work last night, but plans changed. Went to the movie "Men Who Stare at Goats" instead. I thought it was 80% funny movie and of course, I love Jeff Bridges, he makes a wonderful hippie. Also, I love Kevin Spacey, he makes a wonderful pr!ck.

I loved the artwork and the symbolism in this "Army mystery school" they were using, and thought it was hilarious that they called it this is not so much a spoiler but just in case, I'll cut it )

these are cool!

It's called a Hamsa, and is usually part of a jewelry charm or amulet for protection and/or good fortune.

This artist chose to paint her Hamsa and has written a "squidoo lens" on the topic here: http://www.squidoo.com/hamsa-nc

I like that she incorporated the eye symbol in the palm, also symbols like fish, flowers, and suns, which might be for growth, prosperity and happiness.

The Secret dvd in a show
I just got into the show "Weeds" the other day. I'm already into Season 3 and at the end of an episode this rather nasty character gives a copy of The Secret DVD to the main character.

I got such a kick out of it. I couldn't stop laughing.

I know it was an ironic type thing but it was still funny/neat to see it in the middle of the show. It's just fun to see the Secret referenced in the unlikeliest of places.

Anyone else see this episode/watch Weeds?

November 14, 2009

It’s been a busy few days over here, I tell you what. Thursday night was the big Boneshaker party at 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea, and frankly, it was a blast. I’d had some concerns about turn-out and timing; but Ellen and Suezie rocked the house, Mark was a superlative MC, and a very nice B&N rep named Jessie was present (arranged by Psynde) to sell books. The event was truly a credit to these folks — to their organizational skillz and general awesomeness.

You can see a few pictures here, including shots of yours truly with DJ Eternal Darkness, me and Psynde comparing boots and drinking tea, and my old buddy Avionne from Tennessee — who is here in town with her husband, Gordon (via Scotland, long story).

Then, last night was Aric’s birthday. After birthday presents and red velvet cupcakes,* we got together over at this dark, groovy, chilly little bar called the Stumbling Monk with Torres, John and Krissy, and Kat; and behold, beverages were consumed.

Hmm. What else? Oh yeah - on Friday I got my very first royalty check from Tor, indicating that the Eden Moore series has finally earned out! Everybody, do a little dance with me! [:: shakes it ::] [:: shakes it like a paint mixer ::] I’d long since assumed that the day would never come, but I’ve never before been so happy to be wrong.

Goal: 95,000 words by December 12

Things Accomplished in Fiction: Gathered the usual suspects; had conversation about money, what comes next, etc.

Things Accomplished in Real Life: See above, plus housework, errand-running, present-wrapping, day-job work, litter-box changing, short story plotting, researching, reading, and more.

Reason for Stopping: Hubs just got home; we’re going out for a bit, like normal people do on a Saturday night. Just this once.

* He wanted a red velvet cake but I walked everywhere on the hill and couldn’t find a grocery store that had any mix (I won’t buy them premade; but I’ll make them myself without complaint). So I drove out to Trophy Cupcakes and nabbed half a dozen red velvet cupcakes, then topped them with Batman insignias. Because I know my audience, that’s why.

My daily meds list - pretty scary, but boring if you're not me. )

That is what I take, every day, without fail. Or without fail, unless I lose track and don't notice taht I'm out of something, or we can't afford my meds that week, or what-have-you. Shay and I used to laugh that I took almost as many pills to stay alive as she did, and now - I take more.

The frustrating thing is that gastric bypass would eliminate at least 75% of them, but our insurance company refuses to cover it. It's not cost effective, they say. Uhm, have they figured out what they're paying for me every damned month? I need someone with kick ass insurance to marry me long enough for me to get my surgery. That's what I need. Any takers? :-)

Quiet day here today. D's about half watching the Baylor game slaughter and there must not be anyone in Austin because they're all up here. 47-7 when he told me the score last time. ::shakes head::

I threw a load of clothes in the washer this morning, but haven't moved them over yet. My schedule is totally borked up - D has made coffee late at night the last two nights (11 o'clock or so) and for some reason, even though I've never *liked* coffee before, I've had two cups and really enjoyed it. The down side to that is that I then stay awake waaaaaaaaaaaay too late, don't sleep well when I do go to sleep and am useless the next day (and the first person to tell me I'm useless anyway is going to get a raspberry blown in their direction. *G*)

I'm eagerly haunting my library's website for Under the Dome, the new Stephen King, so I can put it on hold. It's weird, they have the audiobook and large print version already up and listed, but not the standard book. I glommed onto the large print one, and if I have to, I'll read it, but I can't even imagine how *huge* that thing will be. Has anyone started reading it yet? Is it good? Please tell me it's good.

Fight Night
Some skeptics are already calling tonight's WBO Welterweight title fight between Miguel Cotto (34-1 27 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (49-3, 37 KOs) a mismatch, but I think it's got the potential to be the fight of the year...

(Hat-tip Jake Emen)

It's hard not pick Pacquiao, who continues his meteoric rise from the 108 lb. weight class when he first started fighting to his current 145 catch-weight against Cotto. To move up six divisions and still maintain the power to knock out Ricky Hatton, like Pacquiao did at 140 lbs, is impressive. That being said, Cotto is the biggest, most powerful fighter Pacquiao has faced to date, and he's not afraid to brawl.

Still, Cotto may be damaged goods after his bloody loss to Antonio Margarito (in which it was revealed in Margarito's next fight that he was using an illegal hardening substance in his hand wraps). And Cotto is not only easy to hit, he cuts easily, too.

4 Questions That Will Decide The Fight... )

My pick? In my heart, I'd love to see Cotto (currently at +250 odds) win the fight. My head, however gives it to Pacquiao (at -300) by TKO in/around the 8th round, to claim a history-making seventh title in seven different divisions.

The legendary Burt Sugar has a great analysis here.

So, what do you think?

OBGyn
I'm just wondering if anyone out there has some recommendations for a good OBGyn in the North Dallas/Plano/Frisco area.
Preferably one that is affiliated with Baylor and takes Aetna, but I'll take any suggestions or warnings. Thanks!

Leave it to me to make a fashion comment. But those new Heat warmup jackets are Hawt-ness. http://store.nba.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3792159 The Air Jordans, eh. So-so. But nice of him to impress the Bawss with his ball handling skills while wearing the product. (no more Converse contract for D Wade)

If you were going to buy a 320 GB model for no more than $80, which one would you go with (and why)...

This one or this one?

Thanks in advance for advice, opinions and/or recommendations.

People of Wal Mart
Remember the snarky goodness of Overheard in New York?

This is kinda similar, in a bargain hunting, bleach my eyes sorta way. I'm lj-cutting the image below. It's from the http://peopleofwalmart.com website. Reader donated photos of their fellow denizens of WalMart. WARNING: Before you check out the site, let me tell you the photo under the cut is very mild compared to the website's moons, plumber's crack, back-flab, moobies, lack of taste and proliferation of mullets.

The one below just made me spit coffee due to it's reference to Lieutenant Dangle in the caption. (Reno 911)

Oh perverted friends list, I appeal to your naughtiness.
Partly for a roleplaying game and partly just for fun, Sargon and I are trying to come up with ideas for magical sex toys. This is surprisingly difficult, especially in a technological setting where so much is already possible. Sex toys as they exist today are pretty hard to improve upon.

Take, for example, anal beads. How the hell do you improve on anal beads? They do what they do, and they pretty much do it perfectly. They're fucking awesome. Yet there must be a way to make them even better with magic. If you wanted to get fancy, fine, they vibrate, but you could do that with technology. We're reaching for something more. A sexy curse, a naughty enchantment . . . the only limit is the perverted imagination.

So I open it up to youall. Anal beads, cockrings, butt plugs, pony tails, probes, dildos, harnesses, crops, collars, gags, ben-wa balls, gloves, paddles, ropes, corsets, the whole nine yards. Anything that could conceivably be associated with sex, especially kinky sex. Ideas? Thoughts? Inspirations? Feel free to get as bizarre and perverse as you like. I am sure my character will thank you extensively once he recovers. He's the kind of guy who would write thank-you notes, you know? He needs an ass-beating.

My room smells so wonderful right now. D bought me an oil burner and I've got some lemongrass oil that I'm using in it. I adore the smell of lemons - to me, it smells cleaner than almost anything else. I know a lot of people reach for pine scents, but give me citrus all the way.

I did the dishes, I watched Supernatural, Vampire Diaries and Bones. I've checked my sugar, taken both of my shots and put a base coat on my nails. In a bit, I'll go watch Fringe and paint my nails at the same time. Then, if I can't sleep, I'll either play WoW or do laundry. Guess which one I'm leaning towards? *g*
